Acne & Acne Scarring

Acne

Acne is a common skin complaint, usually starting in teenage years but can strike at any age. Acne is associated with comedones (black heads), papules and pustules (whiteheads). Excess oil or sebum in the skin can block follicles and cause inflammation. Bacteria can then break causing infection. This leads to scarring, which can leave redness and pitting of the skin.

Acne can be affected by hormones (male and female), stress, and lifestyle. Cosmetics and certain medications can also worsen breakouts. Skin treatments and quality home skin care can help manage acne and can often be combined with treatment prescribed by the GP or dermatologist. A medical opinion should always be sought to achieve the best outcome.

Treatments often involve using AHA’s and microdermabrasion to improve the turnover of dead skin cells and reduce congestion in the pores. Light devices such as lasers, LED and IPL are also helpful. Often simple changes to your routine can have positive effects on the quality of the skin.

During your consultation a selection of professional skin care products will be recommended. These products may be used in conjunction with skin treatments.

We use ZO Skin Health, Neostrata and SkinTech Pharma products among others to help you achieve a healthier, smoother, more youthful complexion.

SKIN CARE

Skincare packed with active ingredients such as Glycolic acid, Salicylic acid, Niacinamide and Retinol will help. Benzoyl peroxide is another ingredient commonly used in products to treat acne.

ACNE BUSTER FACIAL

Combining the powerful resurfacing effect of medical microdermabrasion with bacteria busting blue LED light. For anyone prone to the occasional breakout or to help manage a more resistant acne. Helps reduce acne scarring. Can be used alongside some medically prescribed treatments.

What happens during a treatment?

Skin is cleansed and prepared. The fine crystals of the microdermabrasion machine are passed over the skin to remove dead skin cells that are clogging up the pores. An LED light is then placed over the skin emitting a blue light to reduce bacteria on the skin. This is relaxing and enjoyable.

What happens afterwards?

You skin will look a little pink but fresh and feel smoother. Afterwards, a layer of an appropriate post treatment cream is applied. SPF is applied.

Treatments are recommended 7 days apart to begin with. Improvements can be seen after the first treatment, however a course of 6 is required for best results. Maintenance treatments are required.
